The North Canal Project along with TxDOT’s I-10 projects will cause months-long trail disruptions

We need to demand:

Tell the project team to have detours to hike-and-bike trails front of mind. Any closures should not detour for more than 0.1-mile.

The project will build maintenance only paths along the north banks of the bayou. Tell the project team to please add shared-use paths on the north side of the bayou to extend our trail system.

The detours that get put in place should not just be a temporary measure. There are many examples nationwide from projects causing long (years) disruptions and being able to use impact mitigation dollars to create alternate routes.

Request that the Project team setup a detour along the existing sidewalk that runs along the south side of the eastbound service road. This will also require that they come up with signalized, raised crossings and build out a trail connection along the banks of the bayou. This should be a welcome addition for the tenants of the reatail development.

Request that the proposed maintenance paths on the north banks of the bayou to connect all the way to the MKT/White Oak Bayou connector and for them to become 120-ft shared-use paths

Request that the Project team setup a detour along the banks
