Houston’s hike-and-bike trails were designed as shared public spaces where people can walk, run, bike, and enjoy nature safely.
Increasingly, trail users report conflicts with high-speed electric bikes, gas-powered mini-bikes, electric motorcycles, scooters, and other motorized vehicles operating at speeds that exceed what shared-use trails were designed to accommodate.
These vehicles create safety risks for children, seniors, people with disabilities, runners, and recreational cyclists.
“Houston’s trails should feel safe for an 8-year-old on a bike and an 80-year-old on a walk.”
