Why is this important?
The last time the MKT Bridge was closed, it remained inaccessible for over 600 days. Without immediate attention and advocacy, officials may deprioritize repairs or dismiss the bridge as merely an “extra amenity” rather than the critical infrastructure it truly is.
Is this the only bridge affected?
No. We are hearing reports that another bridge further downstream, closer to I-45 and White Oak Bayou (where the two trails split), is also closed. This compounds the disruption for thousands of daily trail users.

Where exactly is the MKT Bridge?
The MKT Bridge is located at the intersection of Studemont / Studewood & I-10. It is a key connection between the Heights and the Target/Sawyer Heights area, serving as a major link in Houston’s hike-and-bike trail network.
Why does this matter for transportation and recreation?
The Heights Hike and Bike Trail is not just a recreational asset—it is a vital transportation route used by cyclists, runners, and pedestrians for commuting, exercising, and accessing businesses. A prolonged closure disrupts daily routines, increases safety risks, and reduces connectivity across the city.
