Welcome to the Pat Walsh Bikeway, a remarkable 8+ mile trail that serves as a vibrant N-S corridor, seamlessly connecting various neighborhoods and breathing life into the heart of our city. Named in honor of the esteemed Patrick Walsh, this trail not only represents his enduring legacy but also stands as a testament to his unwavering commitment to enhancing the quality of life for Houstonians.

Spanning across City Council District C, the Pat Walsh Bikeway pays homage to Pat Walsh’s remarkable contributions.

Paws on Patios
Known for his tireless advocacy, Walsh played a pivotal role in championing initiatives such as “Paws on Patios,” a groundbreaking movement that allowed our beloved four-legged companions to join us on restaurant patios, fostering a more inclusive and vibrant dining experience for all.

Plan Houston
As head of the Planning and Development Department, Walsh oversaw regulations on development and parking, programs for neighborhood protection and preservation, transportation planning and other topics. Walsh’s largest projects at City Hall were the development and approval of Houston’s first general plan, known as Plan Houston

Houston Bike Plan
Additionally, Walsh’s dedication to promoting a greener and more sustainable city led to the adoption of the Houston Bike Plan in 2017. This visionary plan laid the foundation for an interconnected network of bikeways, enabling residents and visitors alike to embrace cycling as a means of transportation, recreation, and exploration.
The Pat Walsh Bikeway epitomizes the spirit of these endeavors, leveraging three major bikeways – Nicholson, Patterson, and Woodhead – to create an unparalleled cycling experience. As you traverse this remarkable corridor, you will witness the harmonious coexistence of nature and urbanity, with breathtaking views, lush greenery, and vibrant community spaces woven into the fabric of the bikeway.
